We enjoy working together and at times arrange specific social events. So far these have always included food in one form or another. We have had two early evening meals at the China Buffett in central Manchester. This has given us the opportunity to talk and get to know each other a little better. The fact that the food is excellent is a huge advantage but there are some for whom the main attraction is the eat all you want aspect of the buffet.
We have held several community evenings at our centre when clients, volunteers and supporters have mixed together in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. On these occasions the food has been prepared by our own chef and kitchen volunteers who have always done an outstanding job. One evening featured a question and answer exercise aimed at getting everyone to introduce themselves to as many people as possible. On two other occasions we were really blessed to have Ian Peacock a singer and song writer who brought a mixture of old and contemporary songs as well as some of his own compositions. Everyone enjoyed these evenings and some just could not resist joining in which Ian was happy to encourage.
A regular feature has been the coffee and cake afternoons where our kitchen staff have shown off their cake making skills. Tea and soft drinks are also options of course and the idea has been to have the cakes cut in small enough pieces to allow everyone to sample as many as they wish. With as many as eight different kinds of cake on offer everyone has their own favourite and the fact that it is all free of charge adds to the attraction.
We plan to continue to make time for important occasions like these and will no doubt include other ideas as time goes by. So what are you waiting for? Come and get involved!
We had our latest Community night on the 20th of November. A really good mix of staff, volunteers, clients and supporters enjoyed a few hours together with something different this time. We had great food, as usual, prepared by our amazing Chef and his never flagging team. They always work hard to make sure everyone is happy and they even look as if they enjoy it! We had live music again, this time provided by Rejoice who sang three of her own compositions. This made it extra special and we are hoping she will be back soon despite being so busy. The new feature this time was our inaugural quiz. Derek and James had laboured long to produce and interesting, varied and challenging set of questions that even had one participant of ‘Eggheads’ fame scratching his head. We are looking forward to more evenings together and who knows what to expect next time?
